ECOWAS Leaders Appoints President Buhari As Champion To Coordinate Covid_19 Pandemic.

The leaders and governing body of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have appointed the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Buhari as the new Champion of Covid_19 coordinating body.

President Buhari was given the responsibility to coordinate and superhead the ongoing fight against the Covid_19 pandemic in the West Africa sub-region. This appointment was made during an extraordinary summit held by video conference.

This was disclosed to the general public on Thursday, 23rd April by Femi Adesina, the presidential spokesman adding that all the other presidents within the sub-region will be available to support the coordinating champion,  president Buhari.

"ECOWAS leaders at an extraordinary summit held by video conference has appointed president Buhari as champion that will coordinate the Covid_19 in the sub-region. All the other presidents will be available to support Buhari", Femi said.

ECOWAS said, " The Head of State will be discussing the Situation and Impact of Coronavirus (Covid_19) Pandemic in the ECOWAS Region. Presiding this Extraordinary Summit, the Ministers in Charge of Finance and the Governors of Central Banks from the Region Held a virtual Extraordinary Session on April 21, 2020, on the Covid_19 Situation".

From the updates released by the West African Health Organization (WAHO) on Tuesday, the ECOWAS region currently has 5,774 Confirmed cases of Covid_19 with 1,616 recovered cases and 147 recorded deaths.
